Merging The Boundaries

We live in an age of paradoxical progress. Technology has bridged civilizations, but it has also made them clash. With the rise of popular culture and the rapid development of the Internet, cultures have embraced but ideologies have also collided. The result is a world of both boundaries and interaction. In modern society, this has created a paradox. People are centered around their mobile phones, silently isolating people while inviting them into a virtual world. A boundary can be a clear dividing line, filled with illusion and risk, but it is also a mysterious world of untapped energy. 

If we say that these boundaries are set by cognition, willpower, and identity, dividing this chaotic world into two neat halves, then it is also a man-made. Technology covers the fertile landscape of human nature in tar. Its sharp-roofed buildings line the horizon, but nature’s seemingly never-ending roots form cracks in the concrete. 

On this road of the future, humanity and its soul are destined to break free. In this breakthrough, new boundaries are formed in the chaos, making the lines often difficult to see or define? How do they integrate? Art is the liberator as students construct illusory worlds through different artistic media, providing us with strange and diverse perspectives that forms a dream. By redefining boundaries, they explore the essence of what lies underneath. These artistic works examine the impact of man-made "boundaries" on the spiritual world and how they invade every aspect of our lives. With such explorations, art can transcend the boundaries of thought and language, setting the human soul free. 

Through this art exhibition, we explore different perspectives on this intersection of the soul and technology. These include cultural boundaries that constitute physical borders, and rules about aesthetics, awakening our acute perception and deep thinking on life. 

We sincerely thank the teachers and students of YWIES SHLG for laying a solid foundation and creating an excellent atmosphere for our artistic exploration.

交融边界

我们生活在多元化的时代，一方面有文明互鉴的开放包容，另一方面又有技术对峙的动荡不安。随着全球化进程，流行文化与互联网急速发展使得各种文化领域互相交融、互相碰撞，并在交错与重叠的过程中形成了各式各样的边界。在当代社会中，边界既是主体之间交往的前提，也是心灵交往的悖论，例如，当代人以手机为中心被笼罩在一个小小的世界中，无声地隔绝着他人，却又向虚拟发出邀请，仿佛是对自身有限性的片刻逃逸。诚然，边界可以是一条清晰的分割线，也可以是一个模糊的地带，一个特殊的场域。这个场域蕴涵了迷幻与风险，同时也潜藏着未被发掘的能量。

如果说边界是认知、意志与自我认同，它将混沌的世界分为清晰的两半，那么它也是人为的范畴本身——将丰饶的土地覆上柏油色的膜，用棱角分明的建筑将暧昧的意识共同体嵌入整齐的框，仿佛是一条永无尽头的道路。

在这条道路中，边界之限刺激着人们去突破。但伴随着临界与突破的到来，在互相交融的混沌中又形成了新的界限。边界这个概念也变得扑朔迷离，边界如何定义？边界之中的事物如何互相融会贯通？我们的同学们运用不同的艺术媒介构建出一件件凝练且迷离的艺术作品，提供给我们奇异而多样的视角，仿佛将我们拉入一个具体的幻梦。通过将边界打破并重新定义，从而发掘表象之下的本质，这些作品探究着人为创造的“边界”概念在精神世界中造成的影响，以及它如何介入我们生活的方方面面。正是这些探索与穿越，使得艺术可以超越思想与语言的界限，让被束缚在陈规之中的现象相互交融，展现其中的本质与共通。

在这次艺术展中，我们从文化的边界、构成物质形态结构的边界、既定审美规则的边界等多角度去探索对于边界的阐释、探寻与融合，从而唤醒我们对当下生活的真切感知，以及对生命本身的深度思考。

我们由衷感谢耀华临港的老师们与同学们，为我们的艺术探索之路打下深厚的基础，营造优良的氛围。

SNAP is an alternative art and culture space established in 2014 and supported by the School of Visual Arts in NYC (SVA-NYC). SNAP’s program spans from exhibitions, lectures, seminars to screening, performances and other activities for international and local artists, designers, curators, writers & art professionals. Via SNAP’s physical space and worldwide network, friends of SNAP are invited to introduce and further their practice as well as build stronger professional and personal ties inside and beyond the community.
