The 85th Anniversary Yew Wah and Yew Chung School Games successfully took place on the campus of YWIES Tongxiang from June 8 to 9, 2018. Nearly a hundred of students from three campuses of Yew Wah International Education Foundation were attracted to participate. In this two-day event, participants from the campuses of YWIES Yantai, Shanghai Lingang and Tongxiang took part in various competitions, including football, basketball, tennis, table tennis, badminton and swimming.

With excellent performance of every participant and long-lasting passion of our students in cheering for their fellow schoolmates, the spirit of YWIES was vividly demonstrated. Witnessing the growth of children on sports ground, parents also shared joy and happiness with their kids in this event.

Dr Troy Lui, Chief Education Officer of YWIES and YCIS, who presented awards to some winners, said that character education has been playing an important role in nurturing students’ whole-person development. He said he was glad to see that in team sports like basketball and football, students persisted in competing despite scoring behind, and such excellent performance in collaborating with teammates in sports activities testified to the success of YWIES’s character education.

Sport is not only physical movement and enhancement, but also a kind of education that values personal growth and development. In Western developed countries, citizens are passionate in all kinds of sport and sport related events. Such environment makes a great impact on fostering teenagers’ whole-person development. With 85-year-history, Yew Wah and Yew Chung adhere to the mission of providing whole-person education, valuing the importance of sport in children’s mental and physical growth. Sport curriculum of YWIES is not only about physical training, but also about creating opportunities for students to compete. Through competing with fellow schoolmates, students will understand the importance of sportsmanship and team collaboration. We hope to make use of sport to motivate our students to strive for excellence and develop themselves to be all-rounded persons.
