    • To increase our students' interest in extra-curricular reading and stimulate their creative potential, the school library invited Mr Xiong Liang, a well-known original children's picture book writer and illustrator, to share the creation of picture books on the morning of Wednesday, November 11, 2020. The theme of the lecture was "Xiong Liang and His Oriental Elf."

Mr Xiong is the first person in China to promote the concept of "drama on paper" in picture books. His representative works include Kitchen God, Peking Opera Cat, Little Stone Lion, Rabbit Doll, etc. His picture books are rooted in traditional Chinese culture and eastern philosophy. The pictures focus on lines and ink sense, but the structure and language expression are concise and pure, with a unique sense of humour and poetry.

He won the Taiwan Best Children Book, the Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Prize, and was shortlisted for the 2018 Hans Christian Andersen Prize for Illustration.

      Looking for Reading Elf
Before the lecture, the Chinese group of our school held a home reading video solicitation in regard to the theme of "Looking for Reading Elf" for students from Grade 2 to 5, and received numerous submitted works.

      The Lecture
Mr Xiong shared his view on childhood innocence in the lecture. He believes that the fundamental elements of youthful innocence is kindness, curiosity, a desire to explore, as well as the willingness to preserve an understanding of equality in your heart. Traditional Chinese culture and fairy tales were full of these exciting elements.

The lecture ended, but the steps of pursuing knowledge and expanding imagination did not stop. The students' gains from the lecture will be rooted in their daily study and life, making them more and more accessible on the road of reading.
