During the final sprint towards the exams, our teachers went out of their way to give up their spare time, carefully sorting out the key points and difficulty for us and patiently answering our questions. They weren't just focused on grades — they genuinely saw where we were struggling in our learning.

Beyond the classroom, the student council, and work placements, my time at the school also sharpened my organisational skills, resilience under pressure, and leadership. YWIES offers abundant learning resources and a diverse platform for personal growth, where academic achievement and all-round development go hand in hand. These experiences have given me the confidence to pursue further studies abroad.

To parents, I would say: don't fixate solely on the report card—give your children the soil in which to grow in many directions. And to fellow students: when you feel uncertain or lost, don't hesitate to reach out to your teachers—the school will always be your steadfast support.

Completed the examination one and a half years ahead of schedule

Skipping a year and preparing for the exams is not as out of reach as it might seem. In my experience, the approach is this: first, draw up a study plan that works for you; then, take the initiative to ask your teachers to assess whether it is feasible; and finally, follow the plan and make steady progress. I tend to spend time in the library sorting out my knowledge points independently, make the most of opportunities to ask questions in class, and I can also approach my teachers after lessons whenever I need clarification.

This growth has depended on two things: my family, who have trusted me completely, respected my own plans and choices, and never micromanaged my life; and my teachers at school, who have offered steady professional support. In truth, good grades don't have to come from endless drilling. If you learn to manage your time, know when to ask for help, and strike a balance between study and your interests, a young person can thrive at both.

During the crucial revision period, the school gives us the space to study independently, allowing us to target our weak areas and fill the gaps accordingly. We can either book one-to-one sessions with teachers for questions, or go to quiet self-study spaces to review on our own.

Many parents and students worry about the outcome of the final exams, but rather than trying to predict scores, what matters more is to take every step of revision steadily, and to proactively seek help from teachers and family when we encounter difficulties.

The international curriculum syllabus is adjusted every year, so don't simply rely on past experience. It is essential to adapt your study strategies flexibly to your own circumstances. Here are some practical tips for each subject:

• English Literature: Keep practising your writing and develop the habit of thinking deeply about texts. Refine your sentence structures and integrate thematic analysis into your essay frameworks.

• Geography: The textbook is not the same as the exam. Analysing past-paper case studies is absolutely crucial, so make sure you work through plenty of past papers and train your logical approach to answering questions.

• Drama: Don't neglect written exam practice. Organise your analysis of characters, key lines and key themes in each play, and have these points ready so you can draw on them flexibly in the exam.

• Business: For longer essay questions, focus on applying your knowledge to case studies. Pair theoretical memorisation with regular past-paper practice.

• Biology: The volume of knowledge is substantial, so you need to revise in multiple cycles. You can also test each other with your classmates – quizzing one another is a highly effective way to reinforce learning.

   

There are no shortcuts to studying, but there are methods. Whether you are currently studying or preparing for exams at home, find a revision rhythm that suits you, keep practising consistently, and you will see progress.
